ACCRINGTON Stanley stand on the verge of a return to the Football League 44-years after being so famously forced to resign due to debts.

The Observer is producing a special supplement next week to mark the anniversary as it was on March 6, 1962 that the directors sent a letter of resignation to the Football League.

With Stanley so close to making an emotional return to join the ranks of the league clubs, the Observer would like people to write down their memories of Stanley's demise in 1962 and, for newer supporters, what it means to see the club so close to fulfilling the long awaited dream.

Most of the memories will be printed and a cash prize will be offered for the best ones.

Please e-mail your stories to accringtonobserver@gmwn.co.uk ; fax 01254 872259 or write to: Sports Desk, Accrington Observer, 103 Blackburn Road, Accrington Lancashire BB5 1JJ.

  • ALSO next week, the Observer will be introducing "Fans of the week."

We will be photographing the crowd at Stanley's home game with Burton tomorrow (Sat) and three ringed faces will each get £12 to cover their costs of admission to the ground.
