ACCRINGTON Stanley's first ever ladies day for the game with Chester last Saturday was a huge success.

The club was working with Conference sponsors Nationwide to promote girls and ladies football both locally and nationally, as part of the Building Society's "Supporters of tomorrow" scheme.

Myerscough College distributed information about their successful diploma in football for girls.

And the highlight of the day was an appearance from Everton and England goalkeeper Rachel Brown, who went to school in the town. Rachel refereed a penalty shoot-out by Accrington Ladies and helped out at a training session for the Accrington Girls sides, both events were held on the pitch at half time.

  • GIRLS can kick start their football career with two eight-week courses run by Hyndburn Borough Council for just £10 per course.
