Stanley manager James Beattie has challenged his players to build on last week’s draw at Plymouth and start to climb the League Two ladder.

The Reds’ home game with Dagenham & Redbridge has been brought forward to tonight with the hope of attracting a bumper crowd which will cheer Stanley on to their first league win of the season.

While Beattie’s squad hasn’t tasted victory since beating Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup on August 6, they managed to halt their eight-match losing streak with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Plymouth.

That doubled their points tally for a season which began with Beattie telling his players to aim for promotion.

And although they are a long way off that, the Stanley boss believes they should be higher up the table.

“We are bottom of the league but people who watch us play can see that we’ve performed,” he said.

“We created chances (at Plymouth), we shut the back door – now we need to build on the clean sheet and the point we received.

“I have got no worries whatsoever about this team. Where they can go is another issue, but if we perform like that then we’ll win more games than we lose.”

While the point was

welcomed by the Reds, Beattie feels keeping a first clean sheet of the season has done even more for the team’s confidence.

“It was massive for the boys,” he added. “I can see that in them.

“I really enjoyed watching them on Saturday. You have to remember that I was part of that dressing room last season so I want them to do well for

themselves and I want them to feel how they feel at this moment in time.

“After recent results, it’s a massive step psychologically and I’m really proud of them.

“I asked if they believed in what we’re doing, as I’ve said to them in all the weeks previously, and the unanimous answer was ‘yes’.”

Stanley hope to reinforce that belief during tonight’s game, which the club has dubbed Fans’ Friday.

The Reds are inviting supporters of all local clubs to come down to the Store First Stadium and savour the Friday night atmosphere, with tickets reduced to £10 (adults) and £5 (all concessions) for season-ticket holders at any other Football League or Premier League club.

“I am full of admiration for our fantastic regular supporters,” said Stanley chairman Peter Marsden.

“But we need to increase this, ideally to double our core support.

“One way we can do this is by attracting other fans to come along to Stanley when their ‘other club’ is away from home.

“I am sure that once they have had a taste of the Stanley experience they will want more.

“It’s a great night out at Stanley and easy on your wallet too.

However, I don’t want just a few people to be in the know about how fun it is at Stanley.

“Tell your family, friends and workmates; shout it from the rooftops that Stanley is the place to be.”

All discount tickets must be purchased at the ground before 5pm today.

Turnstile prices are £13 (adults), £8 (over-65s), £5 (students/under-16s) and £1 (accompanied under-12s).

Last season’s corresponding fixture drew Stanley’s lowest home crowd of the season, with 1,031 watching a 2-0 win for the Dagenham on January 5.

The Reds will be hoping for nearer the 2,473 that attended April’s Friday night victory against Morecambe which put them on the brink of maintaining their League status.

Dagenham followed Stanley up into the League in 2007 and went on to reach League One in 2010.

But after coming straight back down the Daggers have finished 19th and 22nd in League Two, staying up on goal difference last season.

Caretaker boss Wayne Burnett was handed the permanent job in May and despite losing their first two games of the season, the Daggers are now 12th after losing just one of their last nine.

Neither Michael Liddle (ankle), Laurence Wilson (groin) nor Danny Webber (hamstring) are expected to come back into contention for Stanley, while keeper Ian Dunbavin (knee) is a long-term absentee.

n FORMER managing director Rob Heys’ appeal against the length of his suspension will be heard by the FA at Wembley next Tuesday. In August, Heys was banned from football for 21 months for breaching the FA’s betting rules. He has since resigned as an employee of the club.
