ACCRINGTON Stanley leapt to the top of the Nationwide Conference - but only for a matter of hours before Grays jumped back into top spot.

The Reds seem to enjoy Friday night football and 1,506 watched Stanley see off Conference strugglers Forest Green with goals from Gary Roberts and Steve Jagielka.

It propelled the Reds to the dizzy heights of Conference leaders before Saturday's results - but they still only dropped to second place.

"We have just got to keep going," said Stanley boss John Coleman. "It was a really good atmosphere and a good game and Forest Green showed a good appetite for the game.

"They forced 14 corners and the scoreline could have been 7-4. But I am pleased we kept a clean sheet - our first since the beginning of September."

It was an icy night on a frozen pitch but the Reds went ahead on 33 minutes when David Brown broke down the wing and his cross split the defence and found Gary Roberts who lashed the ball home.

Then, two minutes after the interval, Green keeper Ryan Clarke pulled off a superb point blank save to keep out a Michael Welch header but the ball fell to Paul Mullin who set up Jagielka for his second in two games.

The Brewers had two strong forwards who caused no end of problems with the 14 corners they forced but they couldn't find a way through.

Meanwhile Stanley's Benin international Rommy Boco hit the post, Clarke denied the lively midfielder following a neat chip and the Brewers' keeper also did well to keep out two Ian Craney goalbound efforts.
