Reds' boss Leam Richardson has called for one last push from his Stanley players in their battle to beat the drop.

The Reds responded superbly once the spectre of relegation crept into view, swiftly lifting themselves out of the bottom two.

And Friday’s derby win against Morecambe kept Stanley clear of the drop zone with just two games to play.

One more victory would mean the Reds can only be passed on goal difference – and Richardson wants it to come at Bristol Rovers tomorrow to ease the pressure heading into the final day.

“The best thing is that it’s in your own hands and you’re in control of your own destiny,” he said.

“If we go to Bristol Rovers and win, I think we stay up. If we beat Bristol Rovers and then Oxford next week then there’s no doubt.

“What the Morecambe win does is give you a platform to go into a tough away fixture at Bristol Rovers and be able to express yourself without too much anxiety.

“Hopefully we can get a positive result, bring it back to our place and look forward to the last game of the season.”

Friday’s win put five points between Stanley and the drop zone, but wins for York on Saturday and Torquay in Tuesday’s rearranged game with Barnet cut the gap to three.

Relegation rivals Plymouth also won on Tuesday night – away to play-off chasing Chesterfield – and this season could be the first that a League Two side goes down with more than 50 points so Richardson doesn’t want to leave anything to chance.

“You can’t rely on any results,” he added. “You can’t predict any other results because everybody’s a good, solid team in this league.

“What you must do is look after yourself and put the onus on yourself to get the results. If you do that you’ll be fine. If you do hang around and wait for other people, you’ll find yourself wanting.

“That’s certainly not what we’ve been doing and it’s not what we’ll continue to do.

“We’re near the top of the form guide at the minute, which at this time of the season is fantastic.”

Stanley have lost just three of their last 12 games. Only four League Two teams have a better record over the last six.

But tomorrow the Reds will face a very different Bristol Rovers side to that they beat at the Crown Ground in October.

That was one of nine defeats from 11 for the Pirates before Christmas, which led to Mark McGhee’s dismissal.

Under new manager John Ward they’ve won 12 from 22, though, losing just five.
