ACCRINGTON Stanley’s former captain Peter Cavanagh has appealed against his eight-month ban from all football activities this week.

Cavanagh was banned by the Football Association after they found him guilty of placing a £5 accumulator bet on the Accrington Stanley v Bury game in May 2008.

Cavanagh, who pleaded not guilty, spent five hours before the appeal judges on Monday and they meet against next Wednesday (30 September) when a decision is expected.

Ex-Reds Robbie Williams, Jay Harris, David Mannix and then Bury player Andy Mangan also all received bans ranging from six months to a year and had their appeals heard on Tuesday. They also await their fate on 30 September.
