JUNIOR FOOTBALL ROUND-UP: St Joseph's Under 13s came from behind to beat Mellor 5-3.

The Saints played some good attacking football in the first half and only good goalkeeping stopped them having more than their one-goal lead.

Jack Kerans found the net, latching onto a pass from Phil McDonough.

In the second half, poor concentration cost the Saints as Mellor scored two quick goals,

This rallied the Saints and goals from George Gibson, Devon Booth and Coby Fish (two) sealed the win.

The Saints didn’t have it all their own way though and only some resolute defending from Declan Southward, Josh Heap, Kurt Alderson and Liam Flanagan kept Mellor at bay.

Phil McDonough and Liam Woodhead were excellent in the centre and dominated possession.

GREAT HARWOOD ROVERS: The Under nine Yellow won 3-1 against Darwen Rangers to claim their first win of the new year and first double of the season.

Rovers trailed early on, when a shot was parried by Rovers keeper Wearden only to fall at the feet of the Rangers striker to fire home from close range.

This seemed to spur Harwood into action with an effort from Altham only finding the side netting while Woods had a long range shot.

Rovers levelled on eight minutes after Sagar had won possession with a couple of tough challenges, he put a good ball through for Douglas to make it 11 goals for the season.

Douglas could have made it two if it wasn’t for some good saves from the Rangers keeper although Wearden made a superb double save just before half-time to keep out Darwen.

However, Rovers did snatch the lead just before the interval when Woods sent a great ball to Altham, his cross found Sagar in the box to give Rovers the lead at half-time.

Harwood claimed all three points six minutes into the second half. Sagar’s clearance from his own penalty box found Slattery on the halfway line, he beat his marker and with only the keeper to beat he coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Rovers could have increased their lead further through Woods, Green and Duxbury whose shot hit the keeper.

The Under 13s faced Blue Star Aces and reached the quarter-finals of the cup thanks to a 4-0 win. Man of the Match was George Carter.

RISHTON UNITED: The Under 13s lost 8-2 to Clitheroe Wolves.

For the seniors, the first team lost 3-1 to Bank Top Rovers in the Blackburn Combination while the reserves lost 4-1 to George Hotel.

The A team though celebrated cup success with a 6-0 victory over Hole i’the Wall.

ACCRINGTON LADIES: They continued their fine team performance with a convincing 11-0 win over Preston Rangers.

The goalscorers were Jo Duckworth, Di Salisbury, Jean Derby and Katie Ogden.

Player of the Match was Kirsty Stevens with an excellent performance on the left side of midfield.
