John Coleman pulled no punches after the 3-0 loss to Bury which saw two Stanley players sent off.
While admitting his side were second best on the day, he was furious with referee Eddie Ildeston who sent off two Reds players. Captain Andy Procter was dismissed in the 75th minute for an alleged elbow on Bury midfielder Damien Mozika and Jonny Bateson for a rash tackle on Kyle Bennett ...
"The best team won. They wanted it more than us but goals change games.
We have missed an absolute sitter after four minutes after a mistake by them and then they have scored after a mistake by us and then got two more through mistakes.
They haven’t had to do a lot to win the game but they were better than us.
But it could have been so different if Sean had put that chance in at the start.
After he missed that, though, we never got a foothold in the game.
And then, once we went down to nine men, it was damage limitation.
But we were poor – we work all week on our passing game and then we decide we are going to go long and it didn’t make sense.
We did not play well but when three out of your back four make a mistake which leads to a goal, you know you are in trouble.
Sometimes cheats prosper and Mozika prospered.
Anyone who knows Andy Procter knows he is not capable of throwing a punch.
Unfortunately we can’t appeal as there is no video evidence but we then had to play with 10 and then nine men.
I am sure Andy Procter hadn’t done anything wrong and by his reaction and everyone else’s, apart from their lad who did four tumbles, a few twists and then got up.
In situations like this I think video evidence should be used against the perpertrator and, if he found guilty of play acting, he should be banned.
I think the referee rushed a judgement on the second sending off.
It was a silly challenge but it wasn’t a red and no worse than one two minutes before where two feet were off the ground and a foul was not even given.
Referees sometimes get caught up in the moment and it’s not the first time we have fallen foul of this referee and we hopefully we won’t get him that many times in the future
But I shouldn’t be talking about the referee. I think he had no bearing on the outcome of the game as we were already 3-0 down before he started to play badly.
But we will see what we are made of now. We had a good defensive start to the season which has now become a shambles and it’s now up to me to do something about it.
We have been poor for a couple of halves this season. We have played 11 games so we have been poor out of two of them – we haven’t performed and hopefully we can get back to playing the way I know we can.
I can’t complain against Bury as we were beaten by a better team. Let’s see if they are better than us when they play us at home."
