Reds boss John Coleman is urging his side to turn their solid shows into wins.

The Reds have won just twice in the league this season and are 19th after 10 games.

They take on Aldershot at home tomorrow – who will be buoyed after drawing Manchester United at the Recreation Ground in the Carling Cup.

"We have got to start winning, full stop, and especially at home," said the Reds chief.

"I think we are better than just two wins suggests points-wise but, at the end of the season, the table doesn’t lie and we have got to get a win.

"We know, from last season, that a couple of wins shoots you up the table and it suddenly all looks healthier so that’s what we have got to do.

"We have played better than our league position suggests and they may have been throwing bouquets at us after Oxford but we still only came away with a point, as we did at Gillingham and Barnet.

"You like to think that, if you play well, create chances and dominate possession, the wins will come. We have got to believe in ourselves."

Coleman has got a healthy respect for Aldershot, who came through the non-league ranks at a similar time to the Reds.

They are managed by ex-Bolton star Dean Holdsworth and Coleman fancies them to make an impact in the league this season.

"They will obviously be buoyed by the Manchester United draw and I am made up for them.

"It’s a plum draw and the finances from that should give them stability for years to come and that’s good for the club. It’s nice for them to be rewarded. I have a good relationship with everyone there, they have a good manager who is level headed and I think they are one of the strong teams in the league."

Coleman is still in the hunt to strengthen his squad although Tom Bender has returned from Welsh Under 19 duty while Danny Coid is back after injury.

Winger Nat Taylor’s suspension finishes on Sunday so he sits out the Shots game.

"I am always looking to strengthen but I know I have a team capable of wins here," said the Stanley chief. "What we need is some consistency and we have got to build on our point at Oxford.

"The frustrating thing is we thought we could build on the Gillingham point a few weeks ago but then we go and don’t play like we can against Crewe.

"I have no complaints about getting beaten by Crewe but, I stand by what I say, whatever team we play at home then we should be beating them and certainly teams that are in mid-table. If we are not beating them at home, we are never going to progress."

With the football week overshadowed by Carlos Tevez’s apparent refusal to come off the bench as sub for Manchester City against Bayern Munich midweek, Coleman admitted: "I have had spats with players but never one who has refused to play. It’s a different level to us as the Premiership is a multi-million pound industry, he is on big money and there is a lot to consider but you wouldn’t have had to tell me twice to come on and play, even now.

"One of my pet hates though is subs who aren’t ready to go on when you need them to, even when they have warmed up. They spend about five minutes adjusting their strip, doing their hair and putting on their mascara – we have a few here!"

Meanwhile Stanley’s on-loan defender Kevin Long has been named as a stand-by for the Republic of Ireland squad for their European Under 21 Championships qualifier against Liechtenstein.

The 21-year-old, signed from Burnley until January, will join up with the squad on 9 October ahead of the match in Eshen on 11 October if he is required.

"He will not miss any games which is good for us but Kevin deserves it," said Coleman. "He has been smashing for us and has been particularly good this season."
