NEXT Saturday Accrington Stanley will travel the short distance to Rochdale as they bid to continue their recent good form.
However for many of the fans it will take as long to get there as it usually does to get to Aldershot!
Around 100 fans are expected to join in with the Sponsored Walk and Reds boss John Coleman and owner David O’Neill are also hoping to join in the ‘fun’, while Octogenerian Jack Barratt will be starting the walk in a stark echo of the famous walk to Liverpool that he completed to help reform the club in 1968.
The Supporters Club Chairman, Rob Russell, explained that anybody can join in with this.
"The walk is a little over 15 miles and should take between four and six hours depending on your pace.
"We will have a support vehicle on hand just in case there any incidents.
"The Ultras organised this walk two seasons ago and around 60 people of varying ages and fitness all completed the walk and well within the timescale.
"We are hoping to beat the FANtastic total of £5000 that was raised that year to build a school in Nepal, and also to help the St Johns Aspire fund."
The walk has been organised to help the club’s ‘Save Our Stanley’ appeal which is drawing towards completion and anybody who wishes to join in can get a sponsorship form from the club reception or from Lancashire Hardware on King Street in the town centre.
The walk starts at 7am from the Accrington Stanley FC and anyone wanting to do it needs to get in touch with Rob Russell on 07951 161327 to make sure they are booked on the transport back.
