Accrington Stanley is following up its commitment from earlier in the year by giving fans the chance to have their say in the running of the club by inviting a member of the public to join its board of directors.
Chairman Ilyas Khan pledged to introduce a fan to the board at the club’s annual general meeting this summer, and has announced this week that the new director will be brought in at the end of January.
Fans and members of the community are invited to submit applications before 30 November 2011.
Ilyas said: "The slow but steady change in the governance of the club is really very pleasing. As I said during the AGM, I think it’s only right and proper that our board should now be extended to include a fan to further increase links between the community, the fans and the club as a whole."
Rob Heys, chief executive, pictured right, added: "Anyone who believes that they can add value to the board should write to me with a letter explaining their background and why they believe they should be considered – all fans above the age of 18 are welcome to apply. We will aim to invite shortlisted candidates for an interview during December and early January."
Ilyas and Rob will attend a press conference ahead of Friday’s home game against Cheltenham Town to launch the club’s 2011 share issue.
From Friday, fans and businesses can buy one of 9,999 shares of the club for £100 each. Shareholders will be given the opportunity to vote at future AGMs, with one vote on offer for every share they own.
