GARY Roberts this week signed permanently for Ipswich Town from Stanley in a deal believed to be worth £220,000.

Championship side Cardiff City are thought to have made a late swoop for the 22-year-old but he has signed until 2010 with Town after leaving the Reds to go on loan there in October.

He is now hoping he can go on and play in the Premiership, emulating former Stanley striker Brett Ormerod.

"I want to play as high as I can," Roberts told Ipswich's web-site.

"I have played at the bottom of the ladder and now I'm climbing up.

"Ultimately that means playing in the Premiership."

Stanley have a sell-on clause and will also get some money if Ipswich fulfil Roberts' dream and make it into the top flight.

Meanwhile Ian Craney is expected to sign permanently for League One side Swansea City this week.

Half of the fee - believed to be £140,000 - will go to his former club Altrincham.
