ACCRINGTON Stanley fans hope they have found their saviour - in the form of "God" Godwin Antwi.

Ghanaian-born Antwi has made a big impression on the management and fans of the Reds since his arrival on loan from Liverpool in March.

The 18-year-old defender has been a tower of strength in the three matches he has featured and has stated firmly his case of starting every game in the first eleven.

Antwi has an impressive background, starting his career with Real Zaragoza before being spotted by Liverpool when he was 17.

He is already making a name for himself at Anfield and he is so highly thought of that he was made reserve team captain in January.

And he has already had an international call-up to the Under-19 Spanish side but could choose to play for Ghana instead in the future.

And, despite such a strong CV which could take him around the world, he is loving life at Accrington.

"We just have a laugh, same as when I am at Liverpool. It's a great team and I am enjoying the place. It's very good here," said the teenager.

Stanley is Antwi's first taste of first-team football and he has adapted to League Two easily.

"In Liverpool reserves you play a normal game, in this League it's a good, strong game and I like that.

"I like to play that kind of match more as you need to learn from something different."

Antwi is at the FES until the end of the season and he is determined to play a major role in helping the Reds remain in League Two - with a little help from Anfield team-mate goalkeeper David Martin.

"When me and Dave came we won two games and we were unlucky at Walsall after going 2-1 up," he said.

"I hope we can stay up. When I came I didn't think the team would be like this, but I came and we played a friendly game against Everton and we played good football so I don't know why Accrington are where they are in the League."
