ACCRINGTON Stanley could be priced out of a deal to keep defender Kieran Charnock permanently at the FES.

The 24-year-old has signed a new loan deal until January from League One side Peterborough and has put in some stunning performances as Stanley have kept three clean sheets in their last four games.

But it’s believed his impressive shows could lead to Posh wanting the £50,000 they paid for him from Northwich in July 2007 when his loan deal expires.

"We would love to keep Kieran permanently but £50,000 would put us out of the equation," said Reds boss John Coleman.

"I am not saying Kieran isn’t worth it but, in the current climate, I don’t think many clubs would be able to pay £50,000."

Charnock, who will face Chesterfield tomorrow, would like to stay at the Fraser Eagle Stadium although he knows his career is in Peterborough’s hands.

"I am just grateful that Accrington have given me the chance to play regularly and I want to help them do well," said Charnock, with Stanley currently in 16th place in League Two.

"I would like to think I have made a difference at the back and I feel I am getting stronger every time I play because I am playing regularly.

"I was at Northwich for four years and played a lot but then a hamstring injury and a knee injury killed me at Peterborough," he said.

"I was the first choice centre half and got a League Two championship medal but, as I was out for the last three months of that season, I didn’t feel a part of it and other players took my place so my chances became limited.

"I just needed a chance and Accrington have given me that and I am really enjoying my time here."

Charnock continued: "Peterborough haven’t closed the door on me and I will have to see what happens

"I am, though, keen to move back up North.

"I just want to get as many games as possible under my belt."

Charnock has struck up a good partnership with Phil Edwards in the heart of the Reds defence who he knows from his Wigan days.

"We played in the reserve and youth teams at Wigan and I think that has helped us play together here as we already know each other and have an idea how each other plays,

"We have kept a few clean sheets as a team and now want some more."

The pair will have their hands full tomorrow, though, against Chesterfield’s lively front pairing of Jamie Ward and Jack Lester.

"I don’t usually get worried about opponents but obviously they will be a threat," said Charnock.

"We will have to keep close tabs on those two."

Coleman said he knows the 11th placed Spireites will be a danger after watching them last week. They have 28 league goals so far this season. "I have an idea of how they play and Jamie Ward was impressive. He really caught the eye," said Coleman.

Peter Cavanagh, Robbie Williams, Peter Murphy and Bobby Grant will sit out the game with injury.
