BUSINESSMAN Dave O’Neill is due to officially take over Stanley on July 1.

It’s expected he will then own around 42 per cent shares in the club with Eric Whalley, who stood down as chairman last week, still maintaining around 10 per cent shares in Stanley, the club he has been in charge of since 1995.

The deal is currently in the hands of the solicitors who are drawing up the contracts.

Other shareholders include Ilyas Khan who owns 15 per cent and is the major financial backer behind the Fighting Fund, set up by him and the Reds fans to raise money for Stanley to avoid a repeat of the £300,000 outstanding tax bill which led to a winding up order on the club. They are hoping to make a bid for some shares in Stanley once O’Neill takes over.

Peter Marsden and Terry Styring are the other major shareholders.
