John Coleman is hoping Bryan Hughes can continue to ‘run the show’ for the Reds.

Stanley have not yet lost in the league with the 35-year-old midfielder in the side and Coleman wants Hughes to carry on exerting his influence.

Former Charlton and Hull midfielder Hughes got off the mark for the Reds with his first league goal since 2008 against Torquay on Saturday.

And it’s hoped there are more appearances and more goals to come from the veteran.

"It was a great finish by Bryan but I thought Bryan’s all-round game was superb," said Coleman. "He ran the show from start to finish and his experience has been invaluable to us. He has got a great footballing brain and his experience can only help the others out."

Hughes arrival has also coincided with Jayden Stockley coming on loan from Bournemouth – one of the other scorers from Saturday with the teenager outshining the veteran with a 30-yard strike.

"It was a fantastic strike by Jayden but he is another that has to get fitter," said Coleman. "At the moment we are only getting 70 minutes out of him.

"We have been encouraging him, though, to shoot more so that was a plus for us and Jayden will gain a lot of confidence from that."

While the new boys have impressed, Coleman had praise for the rest of his team after Saturday’s victory. "Andy Procter was like a clockwork orange, I do not know where he is getting his reserves of energy from, he has covered every blade of grass," said the Reds chief.

"And Kevin McIntyre showed a great appetite for going forward and some of his balls into the box were magnificent. I wish I was 15 years younger and I was getting on the end of them!"
