Kern Miller knows his job is primarily about defending but the Barnsley man also aims to get on the end of a few set-pieces.

The 19-year-old has joined Stanley on loan from Oakwell until January 2012.

He played on trial at the Crown Ground and impressed John Coleman enough to come to Stanley on a longer term basis.

"I’m really happy to be here," admitted the centre-back. "It’ll be good for me to learn and hopefully get as much football as I can.

"My priority is keeping goals out but I definitely would like to get my first league goal.

"Everyone has helped me settle in and the banter is really good.

"It is a close-knit club, like Barnsley, and that’s one of the things which attracted me.

"I felt welcome from the start and it is good to be here."

Miller began his career at Lincoln City, making his debut against Accrington Stanley at the Crown Ground, before making the switch to Barnsley.

"I have looked at the League Two fixtures and none stand out for me as I just want to play all the games. I want to get a settled place in the team and play as much as I can."

Coleman admitted: "(Barnsley boss) Keith Hill has helped us out and it’s a chance for Kern to play football, which for players at his stage of development can only be good for him."
