Stanley have signed Everton defender James McCarten on loan.

The 19-year-old comes highly rated from the Toffeemen’s second string.

"The move came about through my coach at Everton, the Academy manager Neil Dewsnip," said McCarten. "He had a word with Phil Hackney who invited me down for a game and John Coleman was at that game and asked if I’d like to come on loan.

"This is a great chance to get first team football. When I knew the opportunity was coming I wanted to come here and play. I’ve been keeping an eye on Accrington’s results. They’ve been on a good run and if they can get a few more wins under their belt they’ll push up the table.

"I’d love to be involved in the play-offs. That’s what I’m hoping for – to get up into the play-offs and help the team push on.

"My number one aim is to play as many games as I can and get some first team football against good opposition under my belt."
