OSWALDTWISTLE UNITED have achieved a first for Hyndburn - by winning the Blackburn Combination League.
Alex Law’s side faced a final showdown with main rivals Mill Hill at Pleasington at the weekend.
Around 150 people turned up to watch the clash with United one point ahead of defending champions Mill Hill in Ossy’s final game of the season.
It was winner takes all and Alex Smith scored two goals in a 2-0 win to seal the champions spot for Oswaldtwistle.
The former Blackpool trainee had also scored a last ditch goal against St Jack’s the week before to take the title to the wire.
"It was the biggest crowd I have seen on an amateur game." said club secretary Barry Shorrock.
"We won the Second Division title about four years ago and I don’t think a Hyndburn side has won the First Division championship.
"Mill Hill have won the title about five or six times in the last 10 years so they were favourites.
"But we have only lost three league games all season so we have done well."
Captain Jason Ashworth will be hoping to clinch the double for his side when they take on New Gardeners at Mill Hill St Peter’s at 10.30am on Sunday in cup final for the RoseBowl Trophy.
