James Caton is hoping to earn his first start for Stanley during Saturday’s trip to face AFC Wimbledon.

The 19-year-old has arrived at the Store First Stadium on a month’s loan from Blackpool and was signed in time for last Friday’s home defeat by Dagenham & Redbridge.

Caton came on as a 59th-minute substitute to make his second senior appearance having come on during Blackpool’s Championship win over Watford in August.

“James was brought to my attention a few days ago,” said Stanley manager James Beattie.

“We did our background checks on him and he’s first and foremost a nice lad who will integrate well with the group.

“He’s a winger who has tremendous pace and hopefully he can come in and provide some ammunition for the strikers.”

After joining Bolton as a nine-year-old, the Widnes youngster was released by Wanderers in the summer of 2012.

He then went on trial with Derby and Blackpool, who signed Caton on a two-year deal with then manager Ian Holloway saying he had ‘two years to make him into someone like Tom Ince’.

“We’re still carrying a few injuries and it’s great to have another option in the squad,” Beattie added.

“When everyone is back to full fitness I’ll have a real headache but that’s something I’m looking forward to.

“James is a great addition to a squad that I fully believe in and if they believe in themselves as much as I believe in them then we’ll win more games than we lose.”

Caton is Beattie’s third loan signing after Newcastle midfielder Michael Richardson and Rotherham striker Kayode Odejayi.
