ACCRINGTON hope Shaun Whalley can be another of Stanley's winged wonders.

The Reds have snapped up the 19-year-old wideman from Witton Albion although he has been training at Championship side Crewe Alexandra.

"Shaun has a lot of pace and we beat off big competition for him including Crewe," said boss John Coleman.

"He can play on both wings and I am hoping that he can set this league alight."

Whalley is cup-tied tomorrow (Sat) and is currently overcoming an ankle injury.

He began his career at Chester but has won rave reviews for his performances in the UniBond Premier Division where he has scored three goals this season.

The winger has signed on loan with a view to a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee in January.

And Coleman says there could be another signing next week.

  • STANLEY will travel to Doncaster Rovers in the Northern quarter-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday 28 November.

"We were disappointed to draw a League One side but you have got to play these teams at some stage if you want to win it," said captain Peter Cavanagh.
