Shay McCartan made his debut for Northern Ireland’s Under-21s over the weekend while James Gray managed to get on the scoresheet.
The young Stanley strikers were both ruled out of Saturday’s draw at AFC Wimbledon after being called up for their country’s latest European U21 Championship qualifiers.
Northern Ireland’s youngsters hosted Belgium in Lurgan on Friday and Gray started in a 1-0 defeat.
McCartan, 19, came off the bench in the 71st minute and went closest to an equaliser, heading against the post.
The squad then travelled to Serbia and McCartan came into the starting line-up for Tuesday night’s game, partnering Gray up front.
After scoring twice in his last four games for Stanley, Gray continued that form by claiming a 54th-minute opener.
The 21-year-old beat the Serbia keeper at the second attempt to register his second goal in nine U21 appearances, but the hosts recovered to win 3-1.
Gray’s goal was the team’s first in their four group games, with their next qualifiers against Italy and Cyprus on November 15 and 19.
