ACCRINGTON Stanley got their pre-season campaign off to a winning start with a 2-0 victory at non-league Clitheroe.

Fans had the chance to see the six summer signings for the first time, with Graham Branch, Mark Roberts, John Miles and Roscoe Dsane starting and Kenny Arthur and Paul Carden introduced after the break.

For Roberts it was the perfect start to his Stanley career as he rose to nod home a corner after just five minutes to give Stanley the lead.

A strong Reds side saw many changes at the break, but seven first-teamers were still too strong for Clitheroe and Stanley swiftly added a second goal through a trialist.

Playmaker Miles stood out as the top performer, looking a constant threat, while the vastly experienced Graham Branch turned in an accomplished performance at left back.

There was a good attendance of 450 for the derby game in which Stanley used a total of 23 players, fielding a mixture of first-teamers and lads on trial.

Manager John Coleman was well satisfied with the first pre-season game after the summer break.

He said: "Whatever the game, it's nice to win and we applied ourselves well and showed a good attitude.''
