ACCRINGTON Stanley's fans team took part in the inaugural six-a-side Supporters Cup at Radcliffe Borough last Sunday.

Stanley's fans team has grown from strength to strength and they were able to field three teams in the event which included supporters' teams from across the North West.

The heat on the day was unbearable and with only a short break between each game, stamina was as much a part of winning as skill.

Accrington Stanley "A" showed plenty of both as they went the entire competition without conceding a goal and lifted the cup with a 2-0 victory over Farsley Celtic fans in the final.

The Reds looked good from the start as they won the first two group games 2-0 with three goals from Glen Barnes and a superb strike from Jason Graham.

Following an 8-0 thrashing of Stanley "C", they came up against pre tournament favourites Chester. After a thrilling 0-0 draw the Reds had goalkeeper Jason Graham to thank for their passage to the semi-finals.

Hyde United came next in a keenly fought game in which both sides looked likely to score. It was Gareth Hodgson who eventually broke the deadlock and Glen Barnes converted from the penalty spot as Stanley eased into the final.

The last game of the day was against a strong Farsley Celtic side.

But it was the Stanley boys who turned out to be the quality outfit as they sent the Tykes home empty handed thanks to a brace of goals from the day's golden boot Glen Barnes.

Stanley Line up: "Cocky" GK Jason Graham, Glen Barnes, Brian Thorburn, Neil Golding, Gareth Hodgson, Liam Smith, Stephen Lambert and Manager Stephen Lowe.
