ACCRINGTON Stanley, the most famous non-league football club in the world, kick off on a big adventure on Saturday.

An adventure which could lead to them getting rid of the non-league status. The team has gone full-time in an all-out bid to regain the Football League status they lost, so famously and so controversially, in 1962.

It's a massive gesture of faith by chairman Eric Whalley, a dyed-in-the-wool Red, who has really put his money where his mouth is. But he's confident that in John Coleman he has a manager who can deliver the dream.

Winning the Nationwide Conference will be far from easy, with sides like Carlisle, York and Hereford standing in the way. But it promises to be an exciting ride along the way.

We hope the people of Accrington and district will pack the Interlink every week - fervent support can mean so much to the players.

And for our part, as Accrington's own local paper, we will be behind the lads all the way. We will bring you match reports, transfer news, club gossip and a fanzine column throughout the season. Together we can be a winning team!
