Stanley suffered Valentine's Day heartache as promotion-chasing Scunthorpe pulled off a stunning second-half fightback.

The Reds dealt with the wet and windy conditions better in the first half, with goals by Lee Molyneux and top scorer Peter Murphy giving them a 2-0 half-time lead.

But Sam Winnall and Hakeeb Adelakun drew second-placed Scunthorpe level before the hour mark.

And just as the board went up for stoppage time, David Mirfin headed home to round off a Friday night thriller and end Accy's four-match unbeaten run.

Scunthorpe had gone 14 league games unbeaten since Stanley won the reverse fixture but it didn't look like it early on.

Laurence Wilson's inswinging corner forced Scunthorpe centre-half Niall Canavan to head the ball behind from under his own crossbar.

Canavan then sent a tame header straight at Stanley keeper Marcus Bettinelli before the Reds took an 18th-minute lead.

A Scunthorpe tackle put George Bowerman in down the right and he squared for Molyneux, who slid to beat Christian Ribeiro to the ball and steer it back across keeper Sam Slocombe, going inside the post.

The Stanley defence was frustrating the visitors and the Reds managed to double their lead after a great move down the left on 36 minutes.

Luke Joyce and Molyneux combined before Wilson lofted it down the channel towards Murphy. A Scunthorpe defender got there first but failed to control, allowing Murphy to fire a deflected shot inside the far post from 16 yards.

Scunthorpe replied with David Syers volleying into the side-netting before the Iron made a double substitution at the break.

And within three minutes of the restart, Paddy Madden played in Winnall, whose shot was too strong for Bettinelli to keep out.

Scunthorpe continued to push the Reds back and sub Adelakun gave Bettinelli no chance with a scorching shot from the corner of the box, which went through a crowd of bodies and inside the far post.

Winnall twice went close shortly after while Madden headed Gary McSheffrey's cross against the bar. McSheffrey then fired just over before Stanley relieved the pressure with Joyce testing Slocombe from long range.

Murphy had a chance to win it from sub Will Hatfield's lay-off, only for Slocombe to turn his shot wide.

And moments later centre-half Mirfin ghosted in at the back post to break Accy hearts by heading home the winner from a deep free-kick.
