TEENAGER Aaron Duxbury has made it through to the final of the Observer Shield where he will face Paul Murphy.

Accrington Golf Club junior captain Duxbury overcame good friend Adam Smith in the semi-final - but it took the 21st hole to separate them.

"It was strange going round with Adam as we didn't chat too much when we played the first 18. When it got to the deciding holes though we just slipped back into mates mode!" said the 18-year-old.

"I didn't think I would win it as I was two down after six holes but then, on the 14th, he missed a putt and I got back level. There was a competition going on so, in the decider, we played the 18th twice and I should have won it then but I hit an eight foot birdie shot short. But I did it on the fifth - a par three. Adam was okay afterwards - he is going on holiday now anyway!"

Rishton Golf Club member Paul Murphy and Green Haworth's Paul Swann were also involved in a tight finish in their semi - with Murphy finishing 1 up after 18. Now the duo will battle it out in the final at Green Haworth on Sunday 7 September.
