ACCRINGTON have made progress this season - and they want more next summer.

The Thorneyholme side finished bottom last season but ended this campaign in ninth spot in what has been a largely enjoyable time for Matt Wilson's side.

Chairman Rod Kenyon has described pro Nishit Shetty as a "gem" and the Indian all-rounder chalked up 1159 runs during the season - and would have gone for the club record of 1444 but for the weather - and took 47 wickets. And he will be back next season to do it all again.

"Nish has been a tremendous hit both on and off the field," said the chairman.

And bowler David Ormerod finished as the leading amateur wicket taker with 62 scalps - taking nine in the last weekend.

"He would have got his usual 80 if it hadn't been for the weather," said Mr Kenyon.

"We have made progress from last season and hopefully it will continue.

"The only disappointment this season is that we have lost in three or four games when there have been close finishes.

"We wanted to finish above half way and we are just below it but there have been plenty of good signs.

"There are youngsters coming through and Simon Hanson has played at the end of the season and done well and he is one for the future.

"And there is a great team spirit at the club."
