ACCRINGTON RLFC's promising start to the season in the North West Counties Division Six came to a halt on Saturday with a crushing defeat at Golborne Parkside.

Accrington had won their first three games but got off to the worst possible start when Golborne crossed for their first try within seconds of the start. And this set the tone for the remainder of the first half.

Accrington were unable to build on their excellent performances of recent weeks and a vastly experienced Golborne side took every opportunity presented to them. At half-time, it was 30-0.

Accrington did, however, improve in the second half, with a much stronger defensive display restricting the home side to just two further scores. It was the lack of creativity when in attack that caused most concern and the inability to finish off when pressuring the opposition line.

The test comes on Saturday against table topping Halton Simms Cros, who are the visitors to Highams (KO 2.30pm).

The club have now switched their training night to Wednesdays, taking advantage of the new facility at Primetime Leisure in Rishton. Starting times are 7pm for the juniors and 8pm for the Open age lads. Newcomers of all abilities are welcome.

  • THE Under 16's put on an improved performance against Chorley Panthers who came to Highams for the second time in four weeks.

Half-time saw Chorley lead 26-0 but a great second half performance by the Lions saw both sides score six points each with the match ending 32-6 in Chorleys favour.

This was undoubtably the best performance of the young Accrington lads playing careers and to confirm this the opposition didn't nominate a player of the match, they awarded a most improved award to the whole team.
