This year’s Great Hameldon Hill Race will be held on Sunday 2 May starting at 12 noon on the Peel Park School field.
Registration for the race will take place in the Peel Park Hotel from 10am and entrants must be a minimum of 16 years of age. Car parking is available at the school. The race is six miles long and involves 1,100 feet of ascent.
There are many prizes including veterans awards in five-year categories starting from 40 up to 75 years for men and starting from 35 years of age up to 70 years for women.
There are team awards for men and women and there is a local ‘non-athletic club’ team award (won last year by the Magic, Myth and Muscle team but has been won in recent years by the local Fire Service and a local gym).
Teams in the past came from all kinds of backgrounds – teaching staff in our local secondary schools, factories and workplaces, Fire and Police services, pubs and clubs, sports teams covering a wide range of activities, families and groups of friends.
All are welcome and any number can count as a team, although it is the first three finishers who count for scoring purposes.
Presentation of prizes will take place around 2.15pm in the Peel Park Hotel.
The proceeds from this year’s race will go towards the designated charities identified by Clayton-le-Moors Harriers for 2010 - The Royal National Lifeboat Institute, the NW Air Ambulance and some help to the new young people’s section of the club, aimed at encouraging young people to become athletic.
