SEVERAL Hyndburn athletes helped the Lancashire team put on an outstanding display in the regional final of the Indoor Sports Hall Athletics meeting at Robin Park in Wigan.

Gerry Lowe, from Hyndburn AC, was one of two team managers. Hyndburn AC's Heather Donald, Sophie Hart, and ex Hyndburn AC athlete Amy Leeming won the overall team award for the Under 15 girls.

This went with their individual awards of first, second and third respectively in the long jump, members of the winning 4 x 2 lap and six lap parlauf teams and Sophie claimed second in the shot putt. Amy, meanwhile, was second athlete overall on the day, so each girls came away with three medals.

In the Under 13 boys team, Adam Brooks and Jake Bonney were members of the winning team with Adam winning a silver medal in the high jump.

In the Under 15 boys, Danny Martin helped the team to the runners-up spot, only just missing out on the overall team award by four points.

Katie Hart competed for the Under 13 girls, who also narrowly missed out on winning their age group. She came second in the long jump and was a member of the 4 x 2 lap relay team who finished second while Natasha Langsberger competed for the first time in individual events and the relay team.

The winning Lancashire teams will now go forward to the National Indoor Sports Hall Final in Birmingham later in the year and the runners-up teams are hoping to be awarded places in the finals as strongest runners-up.
