GREAT Harwood Town will be seeking to extend their unbeaten run on Saturday when they travel to face Cheadle Town in a North West Counties Division Two fixture (ko 3pm).

The Robins are currently flying high in second place after 11 league games without a loss and on Saturday they made it through to the second round of the League Challenge Cup after beating Nantwich Town.

Strikers Paul Mashiter and Andy McNally made up for the missing Matty Derbyshire to fire home two goals to take the team though to the next round to face Atherton LR.

The team is also set to face Unibond Premier League outfit Lancaster City on Monday (7.45pm) in round one of the Lancashire FA Marsden Cup. But Hughes has hit out at the way cup games are organised, saying: "It's a bit of a disgrace really because we have to pay for the referees at the home games and the expenses of the other teams. I don't see the rewards in doing that.

"We want to focus on the league as we are unbeaten so far this season and have got two games in hand. I just hope we can continue our good run. But I suppose things do come to an end sooner or later but hopefully it will be later."

Looking ahead to Monday's match, he said: "We proved ourselves against Nantwich so there's no reason we can't do it again. Obviously they (Lancaster) will be the favourites, but the way we played against Nantwich on Saturday it should have been 6 - 1 to us."

Harwood currently have 25 points with seven wins and four draws. Star striker Matty Derbyshire, who has had the scouts flocking to the Showground, is also set to return to action tomorrow. Hughes said: "Hopefully he'll be able to play for us. He picked up a groin and knee injury and was suspended so he's been out for a couple of weeks. There has been a lot of interest in him. Everton and a few other clubs have been looking at him. Burnley wanted him to train with them. But he's not 100 per cent so wants to wait to show what he's capable of. Andy McNally and Paul Mashiter have done really well up front."

Hughes and his players have been making waves at Hyndburn Sports Centre for the past few weeks to boost their fitness levels. And Hughes is even planning to take the squad paint balling. He revealed: "It's always good to break up the training sessions with something different. This would be a great way to get all the players together. They could have a good laugh but they would have to work hard. When I went with another team I was sweating buckets and it really gets the adrenaline going. It's just like that in a game."

Daryl Sloane is expected to replace Harwood keeper Bobby Harris, who has been ruled out tomorrow with a groin strain.
