Great Harwood battler James Kimberley stormed his way into the Royal Navy ABA National Schoolboy final after a one-sided affair in the ABA semi-finals in Manchester on Sunday.
St Augustine’s pupil Kimberley (12) was pitted against Yorkshire’s Nathan Clarkson from Mickeys ABC, Selby.
Straight away, the Sandygate boxer’s 6ft height told as he towered above his opponent and utilised his longer reach.
‘Kimbo’ set his stall out from the opening bell, scoring and moving well in what was a gallant effort from the champion from the Yorkshire, Merseyside and Cheshire areas.
With great ring craft and a dominant lead hand, the contest was never going to be close and the Olympic style computer scoring finished 19-6 in favour of Kimberley, last year’s Minors ABA finalist.
"James is the biggest 12-year-old I have ever come across," said Sandygate coach Nik Tucker.
"At just over 6ft even I have to look up to him, he uses his long reach to its fullest with most opponents not getting near to him."
Kimberley now faces the champion of the Southern regions, Chalvedon ABC’s Charlie Woodroffe this weekend at Mansfield.
