ATHLETICS is the name of the game for Hyndburn's Year Seven and Eight school pupils.

Hyndburn Athletic Club, the council and Lancashire Sport Partnership have teamed up to present an eight-week athletics coaching programme at Wilson's playing fields, Clayton-le-Moors, every Tuesday from 29 April at 7.30pm.

Norman Mitchell of Hyndburn Athletic Club said: "We want to encourage young people from all backgrounds to come and have a go at athletics. You don't have to be fast or flash, just come down and have a go.

"We are getting a lot of support with the progamme from Dave Croxall, the Lancashire Sport athletics development officer.

Hyndburn Council's Afrasiab Anwar said: "This is a great opportunity for children with little or no experience of athletics to take part in a fun and exciting programme and have the opportunity to represent their borough at the Lancashire Youth Games in Lancaster on 28 June.
