FIVE members of Accrington Gymnastics Club were jumping for joy after they won nine medals in a North West Championship.

The club were competing at Tessaro Gymnastics club in Southport against 97 girls from nine different clubs.

Accrington's youngest star was Molly Simpson in the Eight Years and Under age group. Molly won gold on the vault - despite being not much taller that the equipment! - and silver on the bars and the floor. She narrowly missed out on a bronze medal on the beam but still achieved second highest overall score.

Chloe Stirzaker, who is the Accrington Gym Club champion, competed in the Nine Years age group and won gold on the vault, silver on the floor and finished fourth on the bars - missing out on a bronze medal by 0.05 of a mark.

Rhiannon Housby was in the same age group and won silver on the bars and fourth on the floor.

Her sister, Kira, collected a silver on the floor in her age group and was another who narrowly missed out on a bronze medal - this time on the vault.

And Katy McKenna won bronze on the floor and the vault.

The girls train two days a week at Hyndburn Sports Centre and did remarkably well considering they were competing against a number of gymnasts who train daily.
