TEENAGER Nathan Dunn caused a big stir in the first round of the Observer golf competition when he beat last year's defeated finalist Paul Swan.

The 14-year-old Norden High School, Rishton, pupil, who plays off a seven handicap, stunned Green Haworth's Swan, winning 5 and 3.

The Great Harwood Golf Club junior captain was delighted as it was the first year he has entered the competition.

"I was quite confident," said the youngster, who has been golfing for three years.

"I knew I was playing quite well. I had only gone into the competition for experience so I was pleased to win.

"I knew Paul had been in the final last year but I wasn't nervous.

"I was just glad to play him as it is easier to play players with a low handicap than give them shots."
