BRANDON Hargreaves couldn’t quite clinch the English title - but he will be back!
The 11-year-old Fit to Fight kickboxer faced current English champion Jonnie Squirrell, also 11, in the 30-35kg category at the New Era on Sunday. It went to five rounds and Brandon lost on a split decision.
"It was a fair decision. There was no bias with Brandon being the home fighter and both fought well," said coach Billy Battrick.
"Brandon had stepped up a category and Jonnie was three kg heavier than him and the extra weight took it’s toll on Brandon and Jonnie gradually wore him down."
Youngster Daniel Battrick faced triple English champion Zeesham Khan in a prestige fight.
Daniel, 11, did well against 15-year-old Zeesham but also lost on a split decision. Still he impressed the judges enough to win the Young Fighter of the Tournament prize.
The Senior Fighter of the Tournament went to Mohammed Shakil from Accrington who won his full contact bout with judges from the World Kickboxing body praising his performance.
Fighters came from Derby, Birmingham, Blackpool and more to take part in the Accrington kickboxing show which was hailed a huge success by organiser Billy Battrick.
