THE Hameldon Hill race will take place this Sunday - a change from its usual date of the Spring Bank Holiday Sunday.

This year is the 25th running of the six mile event. Last year's race attracted 150 runners including people from as far afield as Portsmouth and Folkestone but the event has always been popular with locals.

The route starts and finishes on the Peel Park School field. The Junior race, around 2.5 miles, for those aged 12 and under 16 years of age, starts at 10.45am while the senior race starts at 12 noon. Entries can be made at the Peel Park Hotel on Turkey Street from 10am - £2 for juniors and £4 for seniors.

There are prizes in many categories and the presentation will take place at the Peel Park Hotel around 2pm. There is a special team prize for the first local team of three crossing the line - this applies to competitors who either live or work in Hyndburn but are not currently members of an athletic club.
