TABLE-TOPPING Church CC are hoping they have found some stars of the future over the last few weeks.

Church cricketer Nick Westwell and professional Ruven Peiris have been coaching primary school children from 12 schools in the Hyndburn and Oswaldtwistle area. And it culminated in a final last Thursday at Blackburn Road where eight schools - around 75 children - took part.

The tournament - involving eight overs a side with every child bowling an over and having a chance to bat - went to the final ball. And Hyndburn Park were the victors over St Mary's.

"It was a good day - everyone was involved and the games were going on over four pitches and it was non-stop cricket for three hours," said Westwell.

"We are trying to get children involved in cricket and we are hoping, through coaching sessions such as this, that we can get around 10 youngsters to join our junior sides and come through the ranks."
