HYNDBURN Pool team were crowned Lancashire County Pool Association's Inter-league Group B champions following their tense final match of the season against table toppers Blackpool.

The Seasiders held a five point gap over Hyndburn ahead of the game and the local lads needed to win 11-7 to clinch the crown ahead of them.

It was a tough task as Blackpool hadn't lost a game at home all season and had only lost one match during the entire campaign.

It started off badly for Hyndburn, relegated from Group A last season, as they lost the first two frames but then the tide turned.

Paul Fraser, Dave O'Shaughnessy - with an eight ball clearance - Jack Dady and James Brookens all then came up with the goods.

And then Darren Wareing, Mark Slattery and John Dady went on to take the final three frames of the first leg and give Hyndburn a 7-2 lead.

After such an emphatic leg, Hyndburn, began to believe they had a chance of the title.

But Blackpool battled back and took the first three frames of the second leg to pull back to 5-7.

The match was getting far to close for comfort - but Hyndburn didn't crumble.

Jack Dady won frame 13 followed by James Brookens who took the 14th and Darren Wareing who won the frame for the match.

Needing just one frame from the last three to win the league, Ste Fleming left nothing to chance and he held his nerve to promptly win the next frame - and take the title for Hyndburn.
