OSWALDTWISTLE show jumper Ryan Smith and his pony Red have qualified for their first National Championships.
They will travel down to Warwickshire to represent Holcombe Pony Club and compete against 80 Under 21-year-old riders from across the United Kingdom in the National final of The Dengie Pony Club Show Jumping Championships.
Ryan, 12 who attend Rhyddings High School, rode Red to clinch their qualifying place at the area final last week.
Red was the smallest pony and Ryan was the youngest rider in the class of 20 North West riders, but this did not matter as Red jumped two perfect clear rounds over the 1m high course of show jumps.
Ryan said: "I was fortunate to be drawn in eighth place to jump off against the clock.
"I had seen some of the other riders jump fast clear rounds so I knew I had to take a chance and beat their times.
"I knew a safe clear round would not be enough to get in the top four and qualify for the final.
"Red was superb, she had to jump well to get a quick time and she did. I am so proud of her and so pleased to be going to my first National Final."
