ACCRINGTON and District Riding Club held its annual awards ceremony at Accrington Town Hall.

The ballroom was packed with over 150 members and their families eagerly awaiting the rosettes and trophies they have all worked so hard to win throughout the year.

One very special guest was Adam Cornwall, a former member of Accrington Riding Club.

Now in the Kings Guards Adam obtained special permission from his regiment to wear his ceremonial uniform to the awards evening and presented all the prizes to the club’s current members.

Holly Baxendale, 12, a pupil of Rhyddings High School in Oswaldtwistle, was the star of the night. Holly collected numerous awards including the Junior Victor Ludorum and overall points champion for 2008.

Holly said: "This was a total surprise, I did not expect to win the main two awards of the evening.

I have had a fabulous year on my super pony Brewster and to go home with all these rosettes and trophies is amazing. Being a member of Accy Riding Club is great, everyone is very friendly and I would like to say a big thank you to Elaine and her committee for running such a professional organisation’."

Accrington and District Riding Club is looking forward to better weather in 2009.

The club had planned to run seven monthly shows in 2008 but only managed to have four due to the appalling weather we have all experienced.
