CLITHEROE golfer Kim Andrew, who went to school in Hyndburn, finished as runner-up in the Lancashire Ladies County Championship held at Stand Golf Club last weekend.

The England international - who will captain the Great Britain and Ireland team in the Espirito Santo World Cup in Puerto Rico in October - narrowly missed out against Natalee Evans from Pleasington.

It took until the 21st hole to separate the players with Natalee winning with a birdie.

Accrington's Jane Smith, from Wilpshire GC, finished 10th in the qualifying round with rounds of 81 and 80 with the top 16 reaching the knockout stages.

She got through to the quarter-finals, winning her last eight place on the 20th hole.

But then she came up against Welsh international Natalee although Jane did take the eventual champion to the 19th hole.

Jane is a mother-of-two and a full-time accountant.

Meanwhile Accrington Golf Club member Sarah Walton - who won the British mid-amateur championships last year - got through to the knock-out stages but met the in-form Kim Andrew in the early rounds.

Elsewhere Accrington GC's Trevor Foster helped Lancashire to a 15-3 win over Northumberland at Prudhoe GC.

He lost his foursomes match but came back in the singles to play his part.

His son Ryan took part in the Lancashire Boys' championship at Blackpool North Shore GC, completing both rounds in 72.
