HEATHER Donald and Claire Mitchell will both represent Lancashire after coming second in their respective age groups in the Lancashire County and Lancashire Schools combined event championships.

The event took place in Blackpool over two days and the two Hyndburn AC members had to compete in the High Hurdles 80m (for intermediates) and 100m (seniors), high jump, shot and 200m on the Saturday and then on the Sunday in the long jump, javelin and finally the 800m.

Heather Donald was competing for the first time in the Intermediate Girls (U17's) age group and earned a personal best in the long jump. Claire Mitchell was making her debut in the Senior Girls (U20's) age group and set a PB in the 100m Hurdles.

Meanwhile, several other Hyndburn AC athletes competed in a meeting at Trafford after returning from a two week warm weather training camp in Portugal. Several turned in PBs in the 800m and 600m races.

NOT to be outdone, the club won five golds, eight silver and 14 bronze medals in the Lancashire County Track and Fields Championships at Blackpool last weekend.

HYNDBURN AC also finished second in the National Young Athletes Division Northern 1 West match held at Trafford recently.
