Accrington athlete Leigh Lennon has continued her training under double Olympic gold medalist Dame Kelly Holmes.
The 20-year-old, who has a personal best over 800m of 2.05.93 and has big hopes for the 2016 Olympics, has been one of the ‘On Camp with Kelly’ girls since 2008 where the top young middle distance athletes receive training from the best.
This time the Aviva-sponsored get-together was at Leeds Metropolitan University where Leigh had a tough running session, led by Dame Kelly, and then an injury prevention workshop.
In the afternoon the athletes and coaches took part in a workshop on altitude training with English Institute of Sport Senior physiologist Dr Barry Fudge who works with UK Athletics on their altitude training programme.
After learning about the theory of training at altitude Leigh had the opportunity to experience exercising in an altitude chamber set to 3,000 metres above sea level.
Leigh said: "It was great to meet up with the other ‘On Camp with Kelly’ athletes and Kelly and being able to train with them all was great.
"The workshop on altitude training was interesting and being able to experience the altitude chamber was really good although cycling in there was hard work."
