MIDDLE distance star Leigh Lennon will be gunning for glory at the English Schools Championships next month.

The 14-year-old won the 800m in the County Schools Championships at Wigan last weekend and smashed her personal best in the process to 2 minutes 18.06 seconds.

The Witton Park pupil - who has her sights set on the 2012 Olympics - is now ranked 12th in the country over the distance at Junior Girls/Under 15 level - but thinks she can upset the odds and win a medal.

The English Schools take place on the 8,9,10 July at Birmingham.

"We are over the moon," said dad and coach Don Lennon at Hyndburn Athletic Club.

"Last year things didn't go too well as she had tonsillitis and it was disappointing but now she is running well, she is strong and we believe she has a very good chance of a medal."
