Accrington athletics coach Don Lennon has been voted Lancashire Coach of the Year at the Sports Awards held at Blackpool Pleasure Beach on Friday.

Don, who coaches at Ribble Valley Athletics Club, has enjoyed a lot of success over the years.

The highlights this year include Hyndburn athletes Leigh Lennon (far right) and Sam Yates both starring.

Rishton’s Sam (right) was fifth in English Schools and sixth at the Nationals at 800m in his first year as an Under 20.

Meanwhile Leigh, a pupil at Accrington and Rossendale College, won the National Under 20 800m title to add to her English Schools win in 2009

Both received awards recognising these achievements at Ribble Valley Athletics Club – where Don coaches – fifth annual presentation evening.

There were also awards for some of youngsters in their first season with the club – Josh Wilson and Jake Broughton were best Under 11 and Under 13 male athletes and Madison Barrientos and Libby Turner received awards for best Under 11 and Under 13 girls.

Other age category awards went to Lucy Lennon, Amy Bristow and Kerrell Walley.

Cross Country awards went to Helen Wallis and Reece Clarke while special awards for effort went to Rachel Calow and Laura Nerenberg.
