Several of Accrington’s Master of Martial Arts students are waiting to hear if they have been selected to represent the United Kingdon.

Twenty-eight students took their Black Belt gradings over two days at the Oxford Academy in Accrington.

And some of them could represent their country at the United Nations Congress in Germany this year. Those seniors who passed their Black Belt were: Brenda Wolstenholme 1st Dan, Jacki Martin 2nd Dan, Chris Marginson 2nd Dan, Heath Blackledge 5th Dan and Nigel Whitehead 4th Dan.

There was also Audrey Newlove 3rd Dan, Becki Marginson 2nd Dan, Sandra Mercer 2nd Dan, Matthew Bond 1st Dan, Alex Cichoki 1st Dan, Celia Cichoki 1st Dan and Connor Martin 1st Dan.

The juniors were: Brian Bramley, Adam Kyriacou, Essa Dhukai, Alex Mason, Marley Byrne, Declan Ryde, Rachel Ashurst, Mathew Barton, Greg Hindle, Daniel Culshaw, Andrew Service, Lauren Kelly, Matthew Daykin, Zach Stanworth, Asliegh Taylor and James Hebden.

Meanwhile, the Oxford Academy – a Centre of Excellence for the National Governing Body the BJJAGB – is now able to offer students who are taking their GCSE options the opportunity to achieve the equiviliant of a GCSE grade B in Ju Jitsu.
