STRIKER Paul Mashiter got off the mark for the season with a brace in Great Harwood's 3-0 win at home to Curzon Ashton on Monday night.
Mashiter struck in the 46th and 89th minute while Jon Eastham added one in between.
It was a relief for assistant boss Dave Sharples after Harwood had lost their opening North West Counties Division One match 1-0 at Abbey Hey on Saturday.
"Monday night's performance was a lot better than Saturday's," said the assistant boss."We had a few players back including Paul (Mashiter) who had been at a wedding on Saturday. Both John and Paul worked hard and deserved their goals."
Harwood had midfielders Dennis Hill and James Dean suspended - they have got 14 days and seven days respectively - but the assistant boss was impressed with one of their replacements.
"Darren Rodgers usually plays wide of midfield but he came into the centre and was excellent. He can play in various positions and is only 18 or 19."
Harwood do have some players signed on for old Showground boss John Hughes at Chorley as players can sign for two leagues and Harwood hope it will work to their benefit.
"Sam Pope played for us and he has been training with Chorley so if they want any of our players, we will try and return the favour."
Harwood are at home to Alsager on Saturday (ko 3pm) and travel to Squires Gate on Tuesday night (ko 7.45pm). "After 10 games we will start seeing how the league pans out," said Sharples.
