STANLEY had a night to forget on Wednesday when Unibond First Division outfit Kendal performed a real smash n'grab act to claim a place in the Marsden Final.

Holders Stanley missed a great chance to go ahead in the opening minutes when Paul Mullin and Lutel James combined to fashion a great chance for Dean Calcutt, who side-footed wide of the target with the goal at his mercy.

They were made to pay on 16 minutes when Michael Knowles played a loose ball in midfield, ex-Red Stauart Cliff intercepted and sent Dave Foster racing down the inside right channel to beat Jamie Speare confidently.

But on 54 minutes Stanley were level when James, turning smartly in the box, was tripped by Steve Hodgson. James sent keeper Lee Ward with a typically-confident penalty.

Kendal broke down the right almost straight from the restart and Corcoran's cross found Gary Prosser free on the far side of the box to rifle home a real stunner which turned out to be the winner, and most of the 580 spectators went home disappointed.
